Adam and Eve Head to the State Fair!

One of my newer paintings, The Expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden is headed to the Illinois State Fair. The 48” x 48” oil painting will be on exhibit as part of the Professional Art Exhibition in a beautiful building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois. The State Fair runs from August 12-22nd in Springfield, Illinois.

This painting is actually the second painting I did on the same subject. The first Expulsion painting was a monumental-sized painting (below) which was begun when I lived in Germany. The earlier painting is 210 x 240 cm, approximately 7 ft. high. The striped colors of the serpent in the early painting, which I have repeated in this new one, can also be found in my early Garden of Gethsemane painting, another in the monumental 7 ft. high format.

The newer Adam and Eve is part of a current series of paintings in the 48” x 48” format, all of which are filled with multiple birds and animals and fine details. People tell me the paintings are best seen in person to appreciate all the vivid colors and attention to detail.

I worked to capture shock in their faces, while still focusing on the beauty of the Garden. The new serpent is depicted more as an actual serpent than the serpent of my earlier painting, and there is a lot more life in this piece with the presence of birds and animals, all fleeing the Garden.
